Description for Bells Island
This is a very easy but fun and scenic ride, it is also a starting point for other rides that include crossing through the island. This island ride is really neat for familys and couples just wanting a fair amount of exercise and some great scenery.
We like to pack a lunch and find a nice place by the water to eat and sun before returning, kidds and nature lovers eat it up.. Start your ride at tredeger st. parking lot and ride over the walking bridge that goes under the main road 301 bridge this in itself is a lot of fun for kidds and adults alike.
If you vear to the left after exiting the bridge there is a trail that is a beginer single track trail that is fun for all ages and will lead you to the island loop. when you reach the end of this trail turn right and then take your second left and this will lead you to some really nice spots to rest and picnic by the water, the views are great. You can even swim if the water is not too high ( pay attention to the signs regarding water levels).
There are also trails on the top of the island but they are recomended only for experienced riders they are a bit hair ball and can be fatal if you take a wrong turn, there are signs to keep you off these trails.. Just stay on the lower trails if you have kidds or are just out for some great leisure biking.
Directions to Bells Island Trailhead
5th St. dead ends into Tredeger St turn rt. and you will see the dirt parking lot on your right.
