Description for Hurricane Rim
Hurricane Rim trail in between Hurricane and Virgin Utah rides along the cliffs of the Virgin River. Hurricane Rim is fairly technical with much sharper and rougher rock than Gooseberry Mesa. The trail runs very close to the edge of gorge in a few places so be careful. I have only ridden the portion from the east trailhead to Chinatown wash. I combined it with J.E.M. trail and Chinatown Wash for a great 16.3 mile ride.
Starting at the east trailhead I rode Hurricane Rim west to Chinatown Wash, the huge wash about 6 miles in. Up Chinatown Wash 1.7 miles to the JEM trail. Chinatown wash wasn't much fun but not that bad. Then up JEM to the top of the white band of rock below Gooseberry mesa, the real technical part just north of the south parking lot. I then turned around and flew down JEM all the way back to Hurricane Rim, staying (right) on JEM at Chinatown Wash.
Directions to Hurricane Rim Trailhead
To get to the east trailhead take Hwy 9 east towards Zion. Right after mile marker 17, which is missing so 1.1 miles after mile marker 16, turn right (south) on Sheeps Bridge Road. 1/2 mile later, you'll cross over the Virgin River. Just uphill is a cattleguard, then a doubletrack on your right 0.1 miles after the bridge. Take the doubletrack 0.2 miles to a turn-around overlooking the Virgin River. The singletrack is at the end of the turn-around.
