Description for Guacamole
Guacamole trail west of Zion National Park and east of Saint George is a less traveled, fun trail. It is kind of short but worth doing if you are in the area. It is around 7 miles. It is 3/4 slickrock and 1/4 singletrack. It is flat with only about 100 feet of elevation gain; my total ascent was only around 500 feet. The slickrock is technical but doable. It was a little tough to follow Guacamole trail, especially at the south west end. You are constantly looking for those dang little cairns. If you know the trail or go with someone who has ridden the trail it would be more fun, you could keep your momentum, not always wondering which way to go. The slickrock at the southeast end is amazing, like you are on another planet or something. There must have been a fire through the area as many of the junipers where charred, adding to the eeriness of Guacamole trail.
Directions to Guacamole Trailhead
To get to Guacamole trail head towards Zion National Park on Highway 9. Go 7 miles from the traffic light where you turned east in La Verkin, through the town of Virgin. At 7.3 miles, you'll see a dirt road on the north (left) side of the street, Dalton Wash Road. Drive north 1.9 miles. As the road turns east, you'll come to a fork. Turn left (north). Go 2.3 miles, up a fairly technical dirt road. You don't need high clearance but it might be tough in a low-rider. I went up in an all wheel drive Chrysler Pacifica. At the top of the mesa, the road forks again. Go right (east) about 100 yards after the fork, there's an open slickrock area on your right, park here. Look for the rock piles south, this is the trail.

A fun, mostly slick rock ride above Virgin. Trail is getting ridden in well so it's not too hard to follow. Great views of Zion and lots of petrified wood. Last 1/4 mile of road in is steep and not recommended in bad weather.
