Description for Gooseberry Mesa
Gooseberry Mesa is an amazing world-class mountain bike trail. This is a must-do ride. The ride loops around the top of Goosberry Mesa, in-an-out, around-and-over, huge rock formations. It is about 80% slick rock riding. The trail is marked by white paint dots on the rock. There are no huge grinding climbs but lots of short power up and downs. Steep ups and steep downs, ledges, bowls, drops, twists, and turns, it has it all. It is somewhat technical depending on which trail you take.
The Gooseberry Mesa trails are classified as easy, more difficult, most difficult, and extreme difficult. The most difficult takes quite a bit of balance but any intermediate rider should be able to clear most of the stuff with only a dab here or there. I was on and off my bike for a lot of the extreme difficult stuff. The rock is so much fun to climb, it is amazing what our bikes can do. I was suprised at how well my bike could climb some of those rocks. Once you get used to the rock you can do some really cool stuff. The views are truly amazing.
Be sure to check out the point. I rode the south rim trail to the point and then came back on the north rim trail, doing the yellow trail loop, for a total distance of 11.7 miles. It took us almost 3 hours with a long stop on the point to take in the view. The south rim around God's skatepark was some of the best riding I have ever done.
