Description for Chimney Rock
Chimney Rock Mountain Bike Trail in Martinsville, New Jersey has a great mix of trails for the location; rocky, roots, some smooth sections, gravel roads, numerous great climbs, and some gradual drops. Not real challenging, but demanding enough to make for an enjoyable ride. Note that this area gets extremely muddy following rain so try to abstain from riding here after damp weather. I noticed many new-fangled log piles on a majority of the trails. The trailhead right off of Chimney Rock Road opposite of the lake and partly enclosed with a guard rail is enjoyable to climb as well to descend. There is also a tough climb up the trail across the other side of Chimney Rock Road as you head beyond the fence on your right and keep going up, instead of turning right through the hole in the fence, you will find a small group of trails in this area which is in-between Chimney Rock Road. and Newmanns Lane. Once you reach the parking lot at the other end which is off of Newmanns Lane, you can cross that street and enter the trailhead across from the parking lot. It is a great climb for some and the trail branches off a bit at the top or you can turn right in the parking lot and take the trailhead towards the lake via a flat gravel trail, turn left once you cross the stream and make right for some easy trails where you can really get some speed. There is a steep drop with a little dirt mound at the bottom to jump off of in the center of this area. More demanding trails may be found off of Gilbride Road which is on the other side of Chimney Rock Road if you head up the tough climb mentioned earlier, over the top and down the other side, you will hit Gilbride Road. Head up Gilbride road, right turn, and turn right opposite of the small parking lot. Here you will find some fun, technical sections. If you go straight across Gilbride Road and over the stream, you will enter a small loop by a park and multisport field. . To reach trailhead to the other side of the lot, make a right onto Chimney Rock Road and enter trailhead on the left. This will take you to the simple trails which lead to Newmanns Lane. I would say the Chimney Rock trails are some of the finest trails in Central Jersey. They are very well maintained and there is something for everyone. Ride it don’t slide it!
