Description for Menningers
this is a highly technical ride with some great downhill switchbacks. This area has smooth trails but also very rocky sections making some uphill climbs very challenging. There is a recently developed gravel walking trail that is intertwined within the mountain bike trail. I am not sure if this should include the Governors mansion trails or not but right next door is some of the smoothest, fastest trails around this area. There are 3 ponds and numerous wooden bridges to cross. This is also the site of the new kaw river access which includes a huge boat ramp.
Directions to Menningers Trailhead
From I-70 get off on Fairlawn road. You want to go south on Fairlawn and then west on 6th street. Now look for the Kaw River State Park entrance on the right. You will drive all the way in to just before the tracks. There is a gravel parking lot for walkers and bikers. Back up the road is the trail access either left or right. As of late I have seen no map of the trails behind the old Menningers site but there are maps of the Governors Mansion trails which are on the east side of the road. Maps are located close to the Mansion at the top of the hill to the east.
