Front ends today can be a little intimidating to the first timers but really after you play around with them and ask questions you can get them fiquired out.
Maybe some experienced guys out there can post up and pass on some info to help.
I am posting this link of a guy riding buttermilk and forest park with a nut cam, it gives you a onboard look at the suspension working wich may be helpful to some.
