Training for Epic Rides

I was just wondering what everyone does to get ready for epic rides. What have you found that builds climbing endurance, upper body strength for obstacles, distance training, etc?

I'm planning a few rides in late December, and they will be EPIC! I want to be ready.

Lay off the pizza, start eating carrots, and ride :)

Seriously... I think the number one thing to get ready for some epic rides is to ride. If you can't get out and ride then borrow or get a trainer and spin some hours while watching the tube. If you can't do any long rides then make your shorter rides harder. Maybe take an extra hill or pedal faster than usual.

Remember the EPIC ride is just you, so thats fun... that is your training... if you train for a race use your epic ride as a method to prepare your body for the EPIC butt whipping your body will receive to win a race.
In short enjoy your long rides and always try to focus on going just a little faster and your body will let you know if you are in shape..
