Soquel Demonstration Forest mountain bike trail is by far the best most challenging downhills in the Bay Area. These singletracks are super fast, super steep, there are roots, rocks, tough steep short climbs, numerous jumps, many manmade obstacles and jumps. The rock garden on Saw Pit is insane. I would recommend skills and a good mountain bike for some of these challenges.
The beginning of Soquel Demonstration Forest mountain bike trail is a paved and dirt fire road that is a really good grind. Once you reach the top the singetrack begins. The Ridge Trail is great flowing singletrack, it was long and technical. Sawpit is steep technical mountain bike trail that almost killed me. There were rocks, logs, 5 foot jumps, and numerous other obstacles. After Sawpit you can take Hihn's Mill fire road and the Tractor singletrack back up. Braille singletrack is simply amazing. Braille Trail is 1.5 miles of awesomeness. Braille Trail and Saw Pit has the most to offer the advanced rider.
Many people recommend riding Soquel Demonstration Forest trail starting from Aptos Creek rd and climbing the 13 mile fire road to the Ridge Trail. From there take the Ridge Trail all the way to the technical Saw Pit Trail, climb Tractor Trail, steep but easily climbable singletrack, go down the Braille Trail and make a right at the bottom. Ride the fire road back to Ridge Trail, make a left to Aptos Creek road.
Directions to Soquel Demonstration Forest Trailhead
The trailhead for Soquel Demonstration Forest Trail is located off Aptos Creek Road, off of Soquel Drive near the center of Aptos. Parking is found along the road as Aptos Creek Road enters the Forest.
