Description for Rose Canyon
Rose Canyon is usually ridden in conjunction with San Clemente Canyon. Rose Canyon is part paved and part flat double track. The paved part is a very popular connector for road rides between the Mission Bay area and the UCSD and UTC area. This is a great trail for a beginners first ride on dirt, it is smooth and flat. The paved portion passes under the interchange between Interstate 5 and Highway 52 and emerges at the south end of La Jolla Colony Drive. To start the dirt you cross the railroad tracks near the north end of the paved trail. You can follow this all the way to Genesse and even across to interstate 805.
Directions to Rose Canyon Trailhead
If coming from the north take 5 south to exit Balboa Ave/Garnet Ave, merge onto Mission Bay Dr, turn left at Damon Ave (In-N-Out), turn left at Santa Fe St. Drive to the cul-de-sac at the end of Santa Fe St.
If coming from the south take 5 north to exit 23A toward Grand Ave/Garnet Ave, merge onto Mission Bay Dr, slight right at Damon Ave (In-N-Out), turn left at Santa Fe St. Drive to the cul-de-sac at the end of Santa Fe St.

Fun ride with many out and back trails off the main double wide trail. You can ride trails on either side of the train tracks in Rose Canyon. For a nice little urban adventure do the loop where you have to crawl under the 52-805 merge.

mapped it out and it was a great ride but you must enter from the Nobel Athletic Area ride to the peak and then a steep drop down to the valley and the railroad tracks.
Depending on how you ride there are some fun off-road trails and some hard paved areas with some great single track.
It can be a meander of a ride of a lung burner if you ride all out...park your car off Judicial Dr and ride out to find the best route down to the valley.
Have a great ride...

As stated before rose canyon is a very easy ride, though it does have some short single track on the eastern ( past the high school), end south side of canyon. There is also a connector rte between rose & s/clemente if you go to the culvert under the 52/5 i/change and head north you will find an old service rd that turns into a fun single track( short) thay follows the canyon side and the drops into the western end of rose., nice transition for begineers from flat to something a little more challenging(?).Oh yeah poison oak is prevelent in s/clemente any where off of the graded road.
