Description for Noble Canyon
Noble Canyon is probably the most well known trail in San Diego. Most people know this trial as a screaming down hill but it is a great cross country loop. The down hill gets technical and rough but it is great. It is considered an advanced trail but many less experienced riders are able to make it down after a shuttle to the top. You start in the high desert and at the top you are in pine trees. I have always rode up pine valley road to Indian creek trail, to the top of pine mountain and then down noble canyon. The top of the canyon is fast and rolling, at the bottom it gets very technical, narrow single track, gnarly rocks and tight twisting switchbacks. Watch out for the stair way to heaven, it’s the crazy technical section near the bottom of noble canyon. I have seen videos on other sites of riders cleaning this section with no dabs. You can add the Laguna Meadow Trail to this ride for some epic 30 mile rides.
Directions to Noble Canyon Trailhead
To start at the bottom: Take I-8 east about 40 miles to Pine Valley Rd. Exit Pine Valley Road and go left. Left on Old Highway 80. Go about 1 mile and then a sharp right on Pine Creek Rd, it is right after a bridge. Take Pine Creek Rd and the trailhead is about 1.5 miles on the right. If you need a wilderness pass you can get it at the market on Pine Valley Rd. and Highway 80.
To start at the top: Take I-8 east about 40 miles to Sunrise Highway. Go up the hill about 6 miles to the Penny Pines/Noble Canyon trailhead parking area.

This is a well rounded loop. The climb up Pine Creek Road is a great warm-up to the trail head and the fun starts. You might think it will be a fast downhill but takes a good amount of time and effort to get to the bottom. A great trail to ride. Some great technical rocky descents. If you fall it will hurt. It can be ridden with a hardtail or a full suspension rig, depending on your skills. Bring plenty of water in the summer.

A very tough climb at the beginning and honestly the 3.5 mile paved part sucked, but the off road climb was awesome exercise and well rewarded with unreal single trail downhills from the top. We did an 18 mile loop through incredible country, fun, and extreme narrow trails, and some exhausting uphills. Take a lot of water, a few extra tubes (you do not want to walk your way out), defenitely a detailed map, and start early. Among the best I've done too. Defenitely advance riding.
