Description for Iron Mountain
I took the "iron mountain trail" out-and-back instead of doing the loop. It was one hell of a climb with some areas just not possible to ride up (real rocky). The place is popular too, so take one of the other trails if you hate a crowd. The trail is only about 2.75 miles long, but heading downhill the technicality keeps the speeds below Mach 1 so it's not over in the blink of an eye, which is nice. I ride a 6" travel all-mountain bike, so I enjoyed the burliness of the rock gardens, but someone on a XC rig might want to take one of the longer, smoother alternate trails.
Directions to Iron Mountain Trailhead
Just at the junction of Poway Road and Highway 67 you'll see a parking area just off the shoulder of 67 (on the northbound side, but before the Poway intersection). Park there and grab a trail map at the bulletin board just within the park gates.
