Anderson Truck Trail is an 8-11 mile out and back trail. It is 5 miles of climbing and then 5 miles of white knuckle downhill. The views of El Capitan Reservoir are amazing. This ride is a downhillers dream, I could tell by the amount of armor I saw passing me on my way up. The top of Anderson Truck Trail named World Cup trail is full of drops, ledges, jumps, burms, twist, and turns. Yes, I had to walk down/around a few of the sections. It is amazing what some people will do. I think a lot of people shuttle, but the climb is not that bad. The bottom 3 miles is relatively smooth. On the climb up Anderson Truck Trail there are only about 5 spots where you need to jump on the front of your saddle and really crank. At the bottom of World Cup, just after the large dirt patch, stay left and climb the dirt road, you will eventually come to the top of the trail and then hang on and go big. If you are looking for a good mountain bike climb or a crazy downhill stunt show Anderson Truck Trail near Alpine/San Diego is the ride for you.
To get to Anderson Truck Trail head east from San Diego on I-8 to Alpine. Take exit 27 for Dunbar Ln toward Harbison Canyon. This will turn into Alpine Blvd. Turn left at Peutz Valley Rd and park under the freeway overpass. Ride up the road about 1 mile, you will see the start of the trail on the left. Just look for all the wheel marks.
The climb is certainly a grind. It is well worth it when you are on the way down.
I have only ridden this trail from the top down and let me say it is one of my favorites. I don't think I would even wont to ride from the bottom to the the top and back. Every one that I ride with has had there share of crashes on this one,and I'm no exception. If you have not been riding for long then this might not be the trail for you. If you ride a hard tail I would not recommend it! I had my closes call to Sirius injury for that mistake and now sport a full suspension Kona Dog. It has made a huge difference and I am a better rider now that I have the right tools.
