Description for Pinyon Flats Loop Palm Canyon
The Pinyon Flats Loop is located near the Santa Rosa Mountains north slope. The trailhead is nestled between Pinyon Pines and Spring Crest. The trail is eleven miles of singletrack that provides a rider with breath-taking ridge top views, backdropped with impressive, deep canyons that seem to go on forever. The terrain of the Pinyon Flats Loop is very rocky, with many narrow sections surrounded by cactus.
Start on the road just outside the Pinyon Flats campground. Head west on highway 75 for 2.8 miles to Pine View Road on your right. Take this .2 miles to the dead end and continue on the trail. Don't miss the right turn mark by a sign "Pines to Palms". At about 4.4 miles you come to a crossing. Follow the sign for the Ridge Top Trail. The trail has some crazy exposure so be careful, you will also want to watch for cactus. At 6.7 miles you should be in the bottom of Omscott Wash. Head across the wash and start climbing up-hill. You are now on the Pinyon Pines Trail. Follow this all the way back to your car.

If it isn't the view that takes your breath away, the climbing will.
This was an all-around exciting ride. There was plenty of fast singletrack to make the climbing worth it. The most challenging part of the ride is when you have a sheer drop to your right while you are bouncing over loose rocks. Definitely a must-do.
