Description for Santa Ana River Trail SART
The Santa Ana River Trail (SART)is some of the best mountain biking singletrack riding in the San Bernardino area. It is north of Redlands and Mentone on the way to Big Bear Lake. It is not very far from Redlands, but when you get out of your car there and take a whiff of the mountain air, you'll realize just how far away you really are. Sounds cheesy, but it's true.
The trail can be very loose and slid-out in parts, so be careful. Watch out for sharp turns, steep cliffs, and wildlife. If you ride safely, you'll have the time of your life.
The trail is mosty covered in a canopy of trees, and is mostly downhill for the first 3-4 miles. You'll intersect with the fire road, but look for the single track to start up again just downhill a little to the right. I got a little further than this, then back-tracked to the fire road, and went back up to my car. There was plenty more trail where I left off though that I plan to ride next time. Good stuff!
Directions to Santa Ana River Trail SART Trailhead
If you're coming from west of the 215, take the 10 frwy to Alabama st. and go north. Make a right on Lugonia, which is the 38. Take this all the way to Angelus Oak. Be sure to pick up an adventure pass at the Mill Creek ranger station on the way up. You can also get the pass at most Big 5 sporting goods stores in the area. It's only $5, which is better than a parking ticket.
You'll pass Angelus Oak, which is a little town on the way to Big Bear. Take note of the restauraunt, post office, and general store on the left. Behind all of that to the north is the trail head. Keep driving about a 1/4 of a mile. On the left is the place everyone parks. There is also a fire road there, which you will come out of the canyon on. Park, display your pass, get your gear, and go. The Santa Ana River Trail begins back down the road behind the post office just past the port-a-pottys. Stay on the middle trail till you get to the SART sign. You can't miss the single track to the right of

I rode this trail for the first time 2 weekends ago. I absolutely loved it! Good quality cross country single track. Not very technical, an advanced rider could easily do the whole thing without a dab… except for the fallen trees. I assume those were from this last winter. I rode from the top down and then back up. I was only able to do about 27 miles do to a time constraint but it was a blast. The swooping twisty single track made my day! The grind back up wasn’t that bad. I rode my singlespeed and had the perfect gear.
