Sedona Mountain Bike Trails and Reviews
Sedona is located 110 miles north of Phoenix and 23 miles south of Flagstaff at an elevation of 4,500 feet. Sedona is usually 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix mountain bike trails. Mountain bike trails in Sedona, Arizona are amazing. Sedona mountain bike trails have a little bit of everything; majestic Ponderosa Pine forests, steep switchbacks, slick rock, and amazing red rock views. The hard packed dirt combined with big rocks makes some of the trails very technical. The traction on the slick rock is really amazing, you will surprise yourself at some of the cruxes you can clean. The high Arizona desert can be very rugged and dangerous, bring plenty of water on your rides. Sedona mountain biking is rightly becoming a prime mountain biking destination yet you are still able to find solitude amongst the cactus and single track. If you are planning on riding Sedona trails on the weekend be sure to bring a bell, you will encounter a lot of traffic from other mountain bikers and hikers.
If you are a beginner or riding Sedona trails for the first time, I would start at the Bell Rock Pathway. Right across the street from the trailhead is the Bike and Bean which has great beta on mountain biking Sedona. From Bell Rock Pathway you could hit the Cathedral Rock trail. A beautiful ride with a little bit of everything. It is a relatively easy ride compared to Broken Arrow. Cathedral Rock is a great introduction to the Sedona mountain bike trails.
One of my favorite rides is to start at Bell Rock Pathway to Templeton Trail to Baldwin Loop. Ride back to HT trail and take that north/east to Bell Rock Pathway, then north to Little Horse Trail. Take Little Horse west to Llama trail south and then back to Bell Rock Pathway. The whole ride is right around 15 miles. I added the route to the Cathedral Rock trail.
From Cathedral Rock trail you are able to hook up with the HT Trail the Templeton Trail and Submarine Rock. It is a little tough to get to the trails up north, near coffee pot rock but there are ways. Be sure to check out Cosmic Rays Fat Tire Tales & Trails guide book for more information. Remeber, ride it don't slide it.
