Description for Desert Classic
This is some great mountain biking. A fun 22 mile out and back trail in South Mountain Park. It runs along the south side of South Mountain. The trail is fast and rolling, fairly flat. You can ride so fast on this trail, throw it in the big ring and cruise or fly. There are some short climbs but no lung busters. There are some fun technical, rocky sections and a few sandy washes. The Desert Classic is well marked with posts so it’s hard to get lost. This area is beautiful desert, cool rocks, lots of crystals and great colors. The vegetation looks amazing next to these rocks. I have seen coyote, road runners, and even a bobcat. Since the trail basically winds past suburbia, you never feel like you're that far from civilization. There can be quite a bit of other mountain bikers on the weekends so keep your eyes peeled. The Desert Classic mountain bike trail is a good trail for beginners.
Directions to Desert Classic Trailhead
From I-10, take the Elliot exit and head west to 48th street. Take a right on 48th for approximately 1.5 miles and then a left to the south mountain park entrance. The trailhead is to the far left of the gazebos.

This is a great trail for riders of various skill, experience, time and location. It is technical in some areas, flat in others, enough hills and dips to keep you on your toes.
