Description for East Glacier Trail
This trail makes the riding in Wistler seem easy. If you love super slow, techy stuff, this is 3 miles of perfection. Second and third gear all the way. Semi-trials riding. Tons of HOPPING. Hundreds of must make moves, kind of like rock climbing on bikes! XC and freeride bikes don't work in this part of rain country. You'll want a lightweight, long travel trail bike, and throw away the big ring. Rock ring for sure. Elbow and knee pads are a good idea (lots of sharp granite from the last spate of trail work). You have the option of riding out and back on Nugget Creek trail (adds about 4 miles). Difficulty goes up about 4 fold when raining (80% of the time), but then, a few of the the 20 or so sets of stairs become WAY to slick to ride. Explanation here, the stairs at the top of the backside are in series, with landings in between, so if you come off one set too hot, and its slick, you end up doing the Fred Flinstone across the landing towards the next set, at speed, while looking off into free air space. Luckily, there is a railing to throw yourself at if you're lucky. A month of rain can shut down any attempt to clean the whole thing. Mountain biking is all about moves, and East has some of the sweetest on the planet...
